SKÅL SF May 2015
– Hornblower Cruises & Events, San Francisco
Hornblower – Our largest crowd this year on the California Hornblower
The May Dinner was held on the California Hornblower and featured a cruise under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges as well as into McCovey Cove during a San Francisco Giants vs. Miami game. This is always a very popular event but this year was probably the most heavily attended with 72 members and guests. Among our guests were two visiting Skålleagues from the San Jose Club, one from the Sacramento Club and six potential "Young Skålleagues", all students or immediate graduates of San Francisco State University under the tutelage of our very own Skålleague, Professor Mehmet Ergul, of the Tourism & Hospitality Department.
Earthquake Relief – Nepal:
During the Hornblower Dinner Cruise a raffle and auction was held to raise money for our fellow Skålleagues in Kathmandu, Nepal. New member Christine Eichin got the ball rolling by donating her share of the 50/50 Raffle to the "Nepal Fund." Our VP, Nahid Olfati donated a gorgeous necklace, bought in Nepal, for an auction to help raise funds for earthquake relief. The necklace, after spirited bidding, was bid up to $225! In addition, we collected funds from all present, which totaled $850. A check for the amount was sent promptly to the Kathmandu Skål Club.
SKÅL SF March 2015
– Francis Ford Coppola Winery
Coppola Winery Lunch above the vineyards
At the end of March Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyserville, Sonoma County hosted our club for a fabulous day in the wine country. In addition to SKÅL SF members we had members from the San Jose and Sacramento SKÅL clubs as well. Member Ray Sargoni, owner of Grayline San Francisco provided motorcoach transportation from San Francisco and Marin County. The day's events included a tasting of 4 different Francis Ford Coppola Winery wines plus a private guided tour of the property. During the tour we visited the movie memorabilia museum and got a glimpse of the bottling line. Following the private tour, we dined on the Lower Terrace overlooking the Vineyards. The food was magnificent and served classic family style.
