SKÅL Scholarship

Rick Laylin Memorial Scholarship

Each year Skål International San Francisco awards two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to a full-time undergraduate student in a Travel & Tourism, Hotel Management or Hospitality-related program at San Francisco State University.

Our scholarship is dedicated to long-time San Francisco Skål member Herrick F. (Rick) Laylin, who passed away in October 2016. He graduated from Ohio State University, served our country in the U.S. Navy and was one of the first Peace Corps volunteers in South Korea. His professional career spanned 30-plus years in the airline industry with Pan Am and United. Rick epitomized what it means to be a Skålleague.

The Skål-Laylin Scholarship supports university students seeking a career in the hospitality field in the hope that they will follow in the footsteps of Rick Laylin, our esteemed San Francisco Skål member.
